Soul gems are used to capture the souls of creatures in The Elder Scrolls: Online. The larger and more power the creature, the more powerful the empty soul gem required to capture it.
Once a soul has been captured, the soul gem is considered to be full and can then be used to recharge items or to revive a player. There are six kinds of normal soul gem:
Petty soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures between levels 1 and 9.
Minor soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures between levels 10 and 19.
Lesser soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures between levels 20 and 29.
Common soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures between levels 30 and 39.
Greater soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures between levels 40 and 49.
Grand soul gem, used to capture the souls of creatures of level 50 or more.
